1. BOSTON LIGHT SWIM COURSE 2000
===============================================
Water
- Water Temperature for the course as of Aug 6 the water at the Light House
was 67 degrees, the channel to the Long Island Bridge was 70 degrees and
past Thompson Island was 72 degrees. This is very warm. In 1998 the water
at the Light was 58 degrees
Current
- Currents: low tide is at 4:15 am hence at the 8:00 am start there will be
a apx. a one knot current assisting us towards the Long Island Bridge. Past
the bridge, depending on swimmers speed there may be a gradual current
against us. I am not an expert on currents. Those who know more will be at
the dinner and this will be one of the discussion items.
Finish
- Finish: For those who can't see the finish we have a big banner for
finish - for those of us who can't see too well
Water Depth
- Water Depths at Low Tide: Boston Light 24 feet, Georges Island 29 feet,
Long Island Bridge 5-14 feet, Spectacle Island 17 feet, Thompson Island 22,
Old Harbor (in front of L Street). I will have a depth map at the dinner
Swimming Suggestions:
- grease (Vaseline will do fine)
- wax ear plugs (one brand is macks sold at CVS)
