Sean West is from New Zealand and began swimming with Terrapin Masters in the Spring of 1996. Since then he has distinguished himself in a number of areas. A former avowed sprinter, he entered the Chesapeake Bay Swim (4.4 miles) for the first time in 1997 and came in 11th overall in a year plagued by very cold water (62 degrees) and especially strong currents. He finished strong again in 1998 coming in 27th overall.
At 1997 USMS nationals, he swam his usual strong sprint times, coming in 2nd in the 800m, 3rd in the 200m free, 4th in the 50m free, and 6th in the 100m free and 200m breaststroke. Furthermore after he and fellow Terrapin coach Jane Kleine, completed their 800m winning freestyle races, they were married on August 15, 1997 in Orlando, Florida. Sean began coaching Terrapin Masters in the Summer of 1997 and lives in Silver Spring, Maryland.
