Date: Saturday, May 31, 2008. Swimmers will leave Point Lookout State Park
at 6:30am to be boated to Virginia for a 8:00am official start. (Participants must report to Point Lookout at 6:00am for loading.)
Location: on the Potomac River (where it meets the
Chesapeake Bay) starting at Hull Neck, Virginia and
finishing at
Point Lookout State Park, Maryland.
Course: 7.5 mile crossing of the mouth of the Potomac River
where it meets the Chesapeake Bay and divides Virginia's Northern
Neck from Saint Mary's County, MD.
Boat Support: Each accepted applicant will be accompanied on this swim
by one kayak. Boston whalers and public
safety vessels will provide support along the route.
Registration and Pre-Swim Supper: On Friday, May 30, 2008,
there will be a 6:30PM pre-swim registration, supper and meeting at
which swimmer attendance is required and pledge
money must be turned in, at Trinity Parish Hall in St. Mary's City, Maryland.
Race Day Lunch: On Saturday, May 31, 2008, there
will be a post-swim picnic celebration.
Lodging: A limited amount of volunteer housing and camping is available
near the site.
Fees & Application Process: All applicants will receive an acceptance, regret,
or standy-by status letter as promptly as possible. The
non-refundable entry fee is $75. Upon receipt of
an acceptance letter, the full entry fee will be due. At the pre-swim supper, $250 in pledges is due.
Checks made out to: Potomac River Swim (all fees are tax-deductible).
Pledges: Swimmers are required to raise a minimum of $250 in
pledges to go into a pool to equally benefit the Interstate Commission on the
Potomac River Basin, the Southern Maryland Sierra Club, Chesapeake Bay
Foundation, the Potomac River Association, with additional smaller contributions made to the Potomac River Conservancy, Eastern Shore Land Conservancy and the West Virginia Rivers Coaltion.
Included: Participants will receive volunteer housing (if needed), supper,
picnic lunch, awards, and a t-shirt.
