New SCY Team Records
Nov 18, 2003

We owe a debt of gratitude to Jim Nealis for compiling the records displayed on the Terrapin website. As many of you know, Jim combed through meet results from the last decade (largely supplied by Debbie Morrin-Nordlund) in order to provide these useful results -- results Terrapins have been enthusiastically using to produce new top times for the team! Thank you, Jim!

At the beginning of November, Barney Lynch busted out a 2:29.46 in the 200 breaststroke to drop Petra's main man, Drew "Pookie-Bear" Martin, as holder of the record for 25 to 29 year old men. Barney makes his way back to pool competitions after becoming a triathlon convert, where he's been posting very respectable times in the area's triathlon circuit. Barney currently holds a handful of the team's breaststroke and fly records.

Kelly Bowman, the latest arrival from the University of Maryland women's team, put a whammy on the 100 yard freestyle for 19 to 24 year old women with a time of 56.19. Earlier in the year, Kelly as well nailed the age group's 200 free record. With Boman's entry into Terrapin Master's ranks look for her to break the two minute barrier for the 200 free -- a feast unequaled since 1995 when a young Jane Kleine (West), grand dame of the distance free, swam a 1:58.33. Only time will tell if lightening hits the record books twice!

Newbie Christopher Bell placed a stranglehold on the 50 yard fly for 19 to 24 year old men with his time of 25.83. For 35 to 39 year olds, Michael Lee posted a 1:10.29 in the 100 breast with his tentative return to the pool.

In other news, young James Crowder answers the call in the King of the 100 IM challenge dropping his season's time to 57.71; thereby surpassing reliable Emad Elshafei's best time so far in the season by 2.6 tenths of a second. Although the time put forth by Jamie the youngster does not surpass Emad's nine year old record for the 25 to 29 year old age group it does come close! In the age group, only 34 one-hundredths separate young James from the team's record (currently 57.37). Specifically for yards, in the team's history fast swims for the event include Chris Benedick's time of 57.72; Michael Goodison, 57.76, and Michael Lee, 57.43 -- the respective record holders for the 19 to 24, 30 to 34, and 35 to 39 age groups.
