Several Terps showed up last Sunday to face the hot water (didn't I see it boil?) at UMBC for the first of the summer swim series meets, and all those who did came home with blue ribbons and new team records. In fact, among the five Terp swimmers, there was not a second place to be had.
The best race of the meet was no doubt the men's 50 fly where Mike Goodison and Emad went head to head. Mike took off in a flash, but as the middle of the pool neared Emad starting gaining and Mike's lead was dwindling dangerously by the final flags. In the end though, Mike refused to be passed and took the win, 28.84 to 29.03. Both times were wins and new team records in their respective age groups. And, Emad gladly faced off against Mike again in the100 Fly, this time defeating him 1:05.00 (that can't be a real time!) to 1:09.29 - again, wins and team records for both.
Other first places were: Donna Elshafei in the 400 free and 50 breast, both new team records; Emad in the 200 breast with a new record; Meredith in the 50 back, 50 free, and 50 fly, with a new record in the fly; Mike Lee in the 200 and 400 free. Finally, Emad, Donna, Meredith and Mike Lee swam the 400 Mixed Medley relay, setting a new team record of 5:23.05 in the 120-159 age group.
Team records updated with the Swim Series meet and some of the FINA Worlds swims are attached (as a word file this time - sorry, I can't PDF write on this computer).
