Meads

Czar's Star
Russian Imperial Stout
After several tries, I think I finally got this one right. It's a strong, dark, hoppy stout, but quite smooth instead of harsh and bitter.

Soiled Kilt
80/- Scottish Ale
That means "80 shillings," which used to be both the price of the beer and an indication of its strength. This is not a very powerful beer, but it is malty and has a good body.

Hubble Dubbel
Belgian Dubbel
This is a strong, malty Belgian ale. Because of the use of authentic Belgian candi sugar, it is not as heavy as all-malt strong ales.

Tiger's Claw
India Pale Ale
This is a hoppy beer, but it still has a good, rounded malt profile to back it up. This uses English hops, as an IPA should. If you want Cascades, see the APA.

1st! Seamus O'Shit's
Irish Stout
Since this does not have any sourness to it, it is closer to Murphy's or Beamish than Guinness. It is a very light beer than even non-stout drinkers enjoy.

This beer won first place in the Stout category at the 1996 Capitol District Open.

Beat the Heat Wheat
Weizen
This is a great summer beer - light and refreshing. It also uses Bavarian wheat beer yeast, so it has the banana and clove flavors some don't like in weizens.

Reunification Weisse
Berliner Weisse
I refuse to label this a "Berlin-style wheat beer." It's just too darn good. I used an authentic sour mash to create a 3% alcohol beer with a tart, tangy taste that only lactobacillus can provide. Another great summer beer that people really like if you don't tell them how it's made.

Merkin Pale Ale
Amercian Pale Ale
I made this beer in a large part for all the people who thought I didn't like APAs, just because I don't like it when they're labeled IPAs. This beer is full of Cascade hops, right up front, bold and delicious.

Black Cow
Milk Stout
This was my first try at a milk stout. While the recipe needs some work, it got a lot of compliments. I'm brewing it again later this year, so an improved version will follow.

Bit O' All Right
Bitter
This is an "ordinary bitter," just slightly over 4% alcohol and not hoppy. Maris Otter malt extract and Kent Goldings hops give it that British pub ale flavor.

Red Reign
Glühkriek
It's a little difficult to try to brew a Glühkriek, since I've only ever found one example of these Belgian spiced cherry ales imported. Expect this tricky recipe to go through many revisions.
