Spring 1998 -- Claremont, California; Scripps College Dance Class:

This site was created to display some photos from a recent performance of the full-credit members of the Movement Improvisation Dance Course of Scripps College Involved were Gwyn Fisher (Scripps '00), Alia Maxwell (Scripps '98), Victoria Spah (CMC '98) & Jennifer Stuart (CMC '98). Our professor is Gail Abrams. The performance took place on March 8, 1998, as part of the Clay Day and Music Festival organized by Mary McNaughton & the Scripps College Art Department (see an extract of a report on Clay Day for more information).

As the name of our class indicates, our performance was mostly improvisational. That is to say, we had the general outline of action sketched in, but no set choreography. We knew that first we would play with ribbons, then find our partners and do a duet and finally do an excerise with dowel rods to encourage audience participation. But other than that, everything else was spur of the moment, including our accompanying music, by Robert Grajeda. To meet the dancers and identify who is who please visit the Dancers section of this site. But enough explanation, please enjoy our photos.
